Business Management 300 / 495
Principles & Theories of Management, Organizational Theory, Planning & Control Techniques
Learn about general management and operations principles while studying abroad in Thailand for three weeks!
We have partnered with Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand to create a once in a lifetime experience to learn about business in Asia’s hottest tourist location.
You will spend time in Bangkok touring various businesses and listening to experts lecture on business in Thailand. In the evenings and on weekends, we have excursions to famous temples, night markets, and other cultural activities.
Requirements for this course are different than a traditional lecture, and are focused around the study abroad experience. The course is broken into three phases: 1) pre-departure orientations in February and May, 2) In-country program, and 3) Final exam and assignment submissions due one week after program end.
Course grading components while in Thailand:
Daily Activities: 300 points. Students are expected to fully engage in all activities. This means 1) being on time, 2) dressed appropriately for the day’s activities, 3) fully engaged in all activities, and 4) complete all required assignments.
E-Journal while in Thailand: 200 points. You will be required to submit a journal of your experience while in Thailand. For days we have classes or other activities, write two paragraphs in your journal. The first should describe what you did, where you went, and the people you interacted with. The second paragraph should reflect and analyze the day’s activities. How did it make you feel? What was interesting/surprising? How do the activities inform your understanding of business/management? Do you have a single “take-away” in reflecting on the day? Travel days and free days do not require a journal entry.
Graded items submitted within one week of program end:
Final Exam: 200 Points. A take-home essay exam will be administered upon returning to the US. The exam will be based on applying the course concepts to our experiences in Thailand

Please have your topic approved by the instructor to ensure it is on topic. You have the option to submit a full sized poster highlighting your experience in lieu of a paper.

Students will create a 5-minute video presentation relating their study abroad experience with their understanding of management and operations.
